About Karen O’Brien:

Karen O’Brien, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist at Alliance Psychology and the Managing Director of GreenMaze Telemental Health, its clinician-led virtual subsidiary. She previously served as the Continuing Education Coordinator for the Bexar County Psychological Association for two years and is committed to supporting high-quality, ethically grounded professional development for psychologists.

Dr. O’Brien provides individual and couples psychotherapy for adults and adolescents, as well as comprehensive psychological evaluations. Her clinical interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other acceptance and mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-related concerns, sleep difficulties, serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders (SUD), and work focused on compassion and self-compassion.

She earned both her Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas. Dr. O’Brien completed her predoctoral internship at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center and her postdoctoral fellowship with the Geneva Foundation at the National Center for Telehealth and Technology.

Dr. O’Brien has nine years of experience within the Veterans Health Administration and has also worked in a range of settings, including the San Antonio Police Department, a children’s hospital, a university psychology clinic, school systems, and multiple private practice environments. She has previously served as a clinical supervisor for psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows and as an adjunct psychology instructor at Tacoma Community College.
