"Multicultural Orientation: Beyond Competency," presented by Dr. McKenna Hereford
Most training for psychologists has historically focused on multicultural competency. Multicultural orientation (MCO), in contrast, is a lens and process in which to approach clients about their experiences. This workshop will introduce MCO, including the pillars and differences from cultural competency. Integration of competency and MCO, both in therapy and supervision, will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to define the three pillars of multicultural orientation (MCO).
Participants will be able to differentiate between multicultural orientation and competency.
Participants will be able to articulate at least two ways MCO can be incorporated into therapy and supervision.
About the Speaker:
Dr. McKenna Hereford is a licensed clinical psychologist and past BCPA president. Dr. Hereford works full-time for Prosper Health and owns a private practice, specializing in complex cases. Additionally, she is passionate about providing consultation regarding cultural responsiveness and implicit bias in healthcare.
